Survivor Stories
Real people. Real journeys. Real courage. Their stories remind us why we do what we do.
“The team at Afri-German gave me my life back. Three years cancer-free and I've never felt stronger.”
When I felt the lump, I was terrified. My first thought was that I would have to travel to Germany or South Africa for treatment. Then a friend told me about Afri-German. From my first appointment, I knew I was in the right hands. The doctors explained everything clearly, the nurses were like family, and the treatment was world-class. Today, I am three years cancer-free and an active volunteer in our breast cancer awareness program.
“I was afraid of the diagnosis. Afri-German showed me there was hope — and I found it right here at home.”
At 60, a routine check-up revealed prostate cancer. I was devastated. Dr. Asante sat with me for over an hour, explaining my options without making me feel rushed. I chose active surveillance followed by targeted therapy. Two years later, my PSA is undetectable. I tell every man I know — get tested, don't wait, and if you're diagnosed, Afri-German will take care of you.
“I was only 30 when diagnosed. They saved my life and helped me stay strong through every step.”
Receiving a cervical cancer diagnosis at 30 felt like the end of the world. I was newly married with dreams of starting a family. Dr. Diallo and Dr. Osei created a treatment plan that considered my future fertility. After surgery and radiation therapy, I am proud to say I have been cancer-free for four years — and I am now expecting my first child. Afri-German didn't just treat my cancer; they cared for my whole life.
“Early detection saved my life. The Afri-German screening program caught it before it became a crisis.”
I came in for a routine colonoscopy through Afri-German's community screening program. I had no symptoms and never imagined anything would be found. The team found a small polyp that turned out to be early-stage colon cancer. Surgery removed it completely, and I needed no further treatment. That screening saved my life. Now I'm an ambassador for their 'Screen to Survive' campaign.
“At 28, lymphoma tried to take my future. Afri-German's team refused to let it.”
I noticed enlarged lymph nodes and ignored them for months thinking it was an infection. When Dr. Asante's team diagnosed Hodgkin Lymphoma, I was terrified. But the team's calm confidence was contagious. Six cycles of chemotherapy later, I was in complete remission. The wellness program — yoga, nutrition counseling, the psycho-oncology sessions with Dr. Ibrahim — made the journey not just survivable, but transformative.
