Stem Cell Transplant

Replacing damaged bone marrow to restore the blood system after high-dose cancer treatment.

Overview

Stem cell transplantation (bone marrow transplant) replaces unhealthy blood-forming stem cells with healthy ones. It allows doctors to use higher doses of chemotherapy or radiation to kill cancer cells.

⚙️ How It Works

Stem cells are collected from the patient or a donor, then high-dose chemotherapy destroys cancer cells (and the bone marrow), after which the stem cells are infused to rebuild the immune system.
